Why I Is Here

So, I should probably start with the age old question, 'Why are you starting this blog?'.

The short (and brutally honest) answer is that I have the deluded belief that I'll get discovered as the Samuel Pepys of the technological age, at which point someone will offer me oodles of cash to write for a living. And as a by-product, I can give up the soul destroying IT job I've had for the last 10 years.

The long answer is slightly longer.

I've always wanted to be able to write for a living, but unfortunately I suffer from a terrible affliction; I'm a lifelong 'quitter'. In the words of Billy Ocean, when the going gets tough, Steven gets going.  For many years, I just sat around and thought about writing.  I had plenty of ideas for stories but I don't think that really counts.  Finally, in 2002 I bought a notebook in order to force myself to at least start to write something. And I while I did start, having a six-month gap between entries, pretty much kills any momentum.  I also started two novels in this period, and both sadly fell by the wayside.

I got around to starting my own blog in May 2007, the wonderful (if I may say so), The World Of Sherby57.  It's not a normal blog, in that, rather than talk about things that interest me, I just generally spout alot of nonsense.  Spouting nonsense is not necessarily a bad thing, but it doesn't lead to very disciplined writing.  And, while there is lots of stuff on there now, it has tended to come in fits and starts.

As time has gone on, i.e. in the last few days, I've realised that you need to post and be writing on as regular a basis as possible.  To this end, over on Sherby57, I've managed to post entries for the last 4, yes 4, days!  I know it sounds really pathetic, but it's pretty impressive for me.

Apart from frequency, I've started to feel like I should actually write about something, rather than just express whatever gibberish floats off the top of my head.  Since I didn't really want to change the tone of the other blog, then here I am! Will I stick with it and actually post here on a regular basis? We'll just have to wait and see, but I hope you'll join me in the exciting journey.
